      BMW i8 Plug-in hybrid sportscar launch on February 18, 2015

      BMW, the German luxury car manufacturer will launch the highly rated BMW i8 Plug-in hybrid sportscar in the Indian car market on February 18, 2015. Unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the sportscar will be branded as a flagship product from the Bavarian carmaker. The vehicle was first unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, and is also the world’s first car on sale featuring laser headlamps.

      Featuring a low slung body design, the BMW i8 gets large hood and squat rear profile. It features flat twin kidney grille, oblong-shaped full LED headlamps, wide air-intakes and aerodynamically enhanced wing mirrors, which are placed below the headlamps. It is equipped with scissor doors, which opens upwards. It gets specially designed alloy wheels, wide rear bumper and flared wheel arches.

      The interiors of the BMW i8 look largely similar to other BMWs, and are loaded with lots of gizmos and digital button. Its BMW iDrive system features 10-inch display, while the seats are covered with leather. The other elements include chrome plastics, gear-shift lever, parking brake, start/stop button, etc.

      Under the bonnet is the 1.5-litre three-cylinder twin scroll turbocharged engine that is good for 231bhp and 320Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The front wheels of the car are coupled to an electric motor via a two-stage automatic box that is good for 131bhp. This engine is mated to a 5kWh lithium-ion battery, and the combined power output of 362bhp and 570Nm of torque.
