The BMW X7 was spotted being tested on international roads for quite some time. It is expected that the model will go on sale on a global basis in a couple of years. Though, the model was confirmed to hit the markets by 2014, the company had not been able to achieve that target despite their best efforts. Now it has been spotted to undergo the cold-weather testing.

The mule has been developed on the Series 7 test model, with additional weight on the bonnet and also on the roof. This will lend a higher centre of gravity to the new X7. Based on a long wheelbase platform, this model is all set to underpin the next generation X5. Also, X7 will be the biggest SUV to be ever produced by the company. The car will be built at BMW’s plant at Spartanburg in the United States of America. It will compete with the likes of the Mercedes GLS. Large SUVs are common in the US as well as in uptown markets as in China. Hence, the model is expected to find a good market at such locations.

It is however, too soon for the brand to declare the type of engine to be put inside the X7. There are speculations that the test mule has a high-power engine, with a four-wheel drive option. The production car is set to feature a selection of six-cylinder V8 engine, like the 3.0-litre diesel and petrol mill from the BMW X6. The X7 will go on global sale earliest by 2017 with official information to be released only by next year.
