BMW recently launched its the new 5-series model in India. It competes directly with the Mercedes E-Class, which has once again bagged the numero uno position in the Indian market last month. BMW intends to make its cars more cost competitive in the country. This means that along with introducing newer models, prices will be reduced as well.

BMW intends to begin full-scale production of its 5-series ActiveHybrid concept model from as early as next year. "As early as next year, the new BMW 5 Series will also be available as a full hybrid. And we are anticipating the hybridisation of further models series, such as the BMW 3 Series," chief executive Norbert Reithofer told shareholders at the carmaker's annual general meeting in Munich.

The hybrid models come as a part of BMW’s initiative to lower carbon emissions of its fleets for a greener future. The new 5-series model can be driven on a full electric model just like Toyota’s Prius.
