Bajaj Auto had announced that it will launch a Nano-competitor in the market in alliance with Renault-Nissan. The company had repeatedly affirmed that its plans to launch the car are on track. Now, in a recent announcement, Bajaj Auto stated that it will launch the car with a price tag of Rs. 1.1 lakh ex-showroom. “In India, Renault and Nissan are developing an ultra low cost vehicle with the Bajaj group, benefiting from its expertise in the light vehicles and the knowledge of the Indian market. We are aiming for a price of $2,500,” said Renault chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn at the annual general meeting of Renault. Bajaj Auto chairman, Rajiv Bajaj also confirmed the pricing and the launch of the car in the Indian market.

Bajaj and Renault-Nissan had announced in 2008 that it will launch its ULC in the Indian market but the project got delayed due to difference of opinion between the partners. Now as the issues have gotten resolved, Bajaj will handle design, engineering and manufacturing of the car while Renault-Nissan will handle its marketing and sales in the country. The car will be sold under Renault-Nissan brand name. The car is expected to hit the Indian roads by early 2012 and will be smaller than Maruti Alto.
