The second largest carmaker in Europe and part of the PSA Peugeot Citroen family, Peugeot has elaborated their ambitious India plans. The will be getting into full action by 2014. The delay or the time taken by them for launching these models is justified by the official as a “research period”.
Peugeot plans to get the CBU’s by mid next year, which would be then concluded by the locally assembled 508. The French company also states that it would be targeting different segment with its B and C segment offerings. The 508’s import would be a decision taken after the feedback it receives from the Indian market and chances of it superseding the local assembly plans.
Among the line-up was the 508, the hatchback Peugeot 3008, which has engine options such as the 2.0L HDi FAP and the 1.6L THP. The 3008 hybrid and the concept RCZ Sports Coupe also were displayed.
The Peugeot 508 would directly rival the Honda Accord segment, if rightly priced while the 3008 should target the now popular 1.6L bracket. The chances of India getting the 2.0L HDi remains bleak.
Fredric Fabre, Managing Director, PCA Motors India states that they would prioritize 100 cities as the target customers for their products.
