Audi A3 Sedan - Know it better

Audi’s much talked about new entry level premium sedan, A3 has finally been launched in India. Launched in both petrol and diesel guise, the sedan has been rolled out in a total of five trim levels including one 1.8 litre 40 TFSI petrol trim and four diesel variants. The five trim levels are as follows- Attraction, Premium, Premium Plus and Technology. Premium Plus is the only trim that is available in petrol and diesel engine options.

Premium Diesel- Rs. 25.95 lakh

Premium Plus Diesel- Rs. 29.95 lakh

Premium Plus Petrol- Rs. 28.9 lakh

Bookings for the premium saloon already started effective August 1, since the company began production for the saloon a while ago at its manufacturing plant in Aurangabad, there should be no problem with deliveries for now. Being the first aggressively priced vehicle from Audi, the saloon will not just rival other D2 segment sedans but is also expected to attenuate sales of premium hatchbacks offered by arch German rivals, Mercedes Benz and BMW in India. Styled aesthetically, the saloon is aimed at first time Audi buyers and young urban customers. On the outside, front grille looks very similar to other Audi cars like A4, A6 and A8. Other features include xenon head lamps with LED day time running lights, dual zone A/C, Audi parking system with rear view camera, Audi sound system, leather upholstery and large air inlets placed in front. The low slung semblance renders it an up-market look.

Features like 7-inch MMI screen, panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats are some of the preeminent provisions offered on the saloon. Vital safety features such as seven airbags, Anti-Lock-Braking system with Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist as standard features across the range.

Under the bonnet, a 1.8 litre TFSI petrol and a 2.0 litre TDI diesel engine have been equipped in petrol and diesel variants respectively. The 1.8 litre gasoline engine is capable of developing a maximum power output of 180 Bhp along with a top torque of 250 Nm. Petrol variant is claimed to deliver a decent fuel economy of 16 kmpl. Diesel range of new Audi A3 gets a 2.0 litre TDI powerplant that is good for a maximum power output of 143 Bhp and a peak torque of 320 Nm. Diesel trims will deliver an exceedingly well fuel efficiency of 20.83 kmpl. Both engines are mated to a S-Tronic 7-speed transmission.
