In order to become the world's largest automaker, the Volkswagen Group is continuously launching new models in the country. One such model could be launched by the Group and its subdivision Porsche around 2017 to compete with Mercedes Benz CLS. Testing of the new Macan SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) has already begun. The smaller version of the carmaker's four door sedan, Panamera will be called Pajun.

Porsche may expand its model lines to seven from four to help achieve its goal of increasing annual sales to about 200,000,” said Matthias Mueller, Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

With this new launch, Porsche will have a total of 7 models in its line up including the Boxster, the Cayman, the 911, the Cayenne, the Macan, the Panamera and the Pajun.

This model is being launched by the Porsche at a time when the trend is to build affordable cars in order to appease those who cannot afford high end cars. Especially the first time buyers and the youths are targeted. The Macan SUV and Pajun sports car will be the contenders from the house of Porsche, which will deliver higher sales and profit margin.

Since the Panamera came with diesel and hybrid powertrain options, one can expect the same diesel or hybrid powertrain in the upcoming Pajun. The specifications of the car is yet to be known to the world but the sedan is expected to be priced in the range of 65,000-1,00,000 Euros.

However, according to a company spokesperson, the production of the Pajun is still undecided by the German car maker. There's very less chance, if ever the Pajun is built, that it will share platform with Volkswagen's new parts sharing system.

Part sharing system ensures that various car models from brands such as Audi, Skoda, Volkswagen, Porsche and Bentley share common platforms like Modularer Längsbaukasten (MLB), Modularer Querbaukasten (MQB) and Modularer Standardantrieb-Baukasten (MSB).

In order to cuts cost and realise higher profit, this platform sharing arrangement is quite critical for the Group. The consistent expansion in its model line-up across various brands is an attempt by the German automobile company to achieve its aim of being the world's largest car maker by 2018.
