Ahead of its launch in India, the product brochure and guide presentation slides of the 2015 Tata Safari Strome facelift have been leaked online. As per the leaked information, the facelifted Safari Strome continues to be powered with the same 2.2-litre, 16V ‘VARICOR’ diesel engine, but it has been tuned for better power output.
The engine now produces a maximum power of 150PS at 4, 000rpm, while the torque output remains same, i.e. 320Nm between 1,700rpm – 2,700rpm. The powertrain is mated with a 5-speed manual transmission. It gets an additional self-adjusting clutch with 260mm diameter fly wheel. Tata has increased the fuel tank capacity to 63-litres, which was 55-litres before.
The company has made some significant changes to the cabin of the car to price it aggressively. The LX trim doesn’t get steering mounted controls, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and side and rear foot-steps, while the rear disc brakes are replaced with drums brakes and 16-inches wheel rims are changed with 235/75 15 inches steel rims.
The power window with Express Down feature is available only on the driver side. Furthermore, the base model lacks the third row jump seat that reduces its seating capacity and makes it a 5-seater. The LX trim is available only in two exterior paint options – Arctic Silver and Arctic White with grey cladding and bumpers.
The top-spec models - EX and VX - get a new Java Black theme along with some cosmetic updates on both interior and exterior. Both the variants are equipped with Harman music system with ‘CONNECTNET’ feature, while the Ultrasonic reverse guide system with LCD screen is available only on the VX model. The remote central locking with flip key comes as standard offering.
