The 2015 Tata Safari Storme facelift is expected to launch in the next week in India, claims a report published on IndiaCarNews. The report further claims that the new Safari Storme will be offered in three variants – LX, EX and VX – in the price range of Rs. 9.99 lakh – Rs. 13.01 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). However, the company hasn’t officially said anything about this. The dealers have even started taking pre-booking for the SUV at a token amount of Rs. 21, 000.

The report also reveals that the base variant (LX) of the Safari Strome facelift will be a 5-seater, while the EX and VX trims will remain 7-seaters. The pictures of the new Safari Strome, leaked a few weeks ago, suggest that the major cosmetic changes will be made on the front end of the SUV. The new honeycomb grille and air dam intake are inspired from the Land Rover Freelander 2. The ‘VaiCor’ badge on the fenders hints that the SUV will get an updated engine.

On the interior, the new Safari Storme receives significant updates. Features like Zest/ Bolt inspired three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, dashboard with silver accents, new shades on door panels and new trims differentiate it from the existing model. It gets a Harman music system with Bluetooth, UBS and Aux-in connectivity on the centre console.

The 4WD selector knob, available only on the top-end variant, is now positioned to the centre console. The updated model gets a new self adjusting clutch with 260mm diameter fly wheel. Powering the new Safari Strome facelift will be the same 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, VariCor diesel engine that does duty on the existing model. Though, it is tuned for more power.

The engine now delivers a maximum power of 150PS, while the torque output remains the same, i.e. 320Nm. Transmitting power to wheels will be the same 5-speed manual gearbox. In terms of handling and drivability, the Safari Strome facelift is expected to be remained unchanged. Upon its launch, the 2015 Tata Safari Strome facelift will take on the likes of Mahindra Scorpio, Toyota Fortuner and Nissan Terrano.
