Volkswagen Beetle, an iconic model of German auto giant, will soon hit the Indian roads in a new avatar. The Indian subsidiary of Volkswagen is planning to launch the third generation model of the Beetle in the country by year 2012.
he iconic car, which was so far named as ‘New Beetle’ in the Indian market, will now be renamed as ‘2012 Beetle’ in the country.
he new generation Volkswagen Beetle is already a hit in the US market where it was launched about a few months back. The car was also displayed at the Shanghai Motor Show, where it had attracted a large number of car enthusiasts. As per market speculations, the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle would be hitting the Indian roads in February 2012.
While speaking at the launching ceremony of the sixth generation model of the Volkswagen Jetta in Mumbai on Tuesday, Mr. Neeraj Garg, a member of the board and director of Volkswagen Group Sales India, said, “We will have the third generation Beetle in India soon. However, it will not be this year.”
Launched in the country in December 2009, the Volkswagen Beetle has clocked sales of over 617 units in the Indian auto market, so far. In year 2010, the company managed to sell 466 units of Beetle in the country. In the current year, the German car maker has sold about 93 units of this car in the Indian market
