BMW, the well-acclaimed German auto maker, is all set to create ripples in the Indian auto industry with the upgraded 3 Series. Being a part of the launch ceremony, the cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar is also anticipated to share the limelight. It is believed that the legend of cricket world will endorse the brand name of BMW in India. Coming back to the launch of the new model, the Bavarian-based auto giant tops the league of luxury cars segment in India.

In order to set its trim levels apart from the existing, the auto giant has adopted new nomenclature, namely Modern Line, Luxury Line, Sport Line and Luxury Plus. Considering the Indian perspective, the 2012 edition BMW 3 Series is believed to feature in Sport Line, Luxury Line and Luxury Plus trims only.

BMW 320d, the member of new 3 Series family, is expected to be powered with a new diesel powertrain, which is the latest Twin Power Turbo system of BMW. The maximum power churned out by the engine of this car stands at 164 bhp with a peak torque of 380 Nm. Adding a feather to its hat, the 8-speed ZF automatic transmission will make an add-on to the credentials of the upcoming BMW 3 Series sedan. With a brilliant output, the model will also set benchmark in the terms of fuel efficiency. BMW 320d will deliver a mileage of 18.88 kmpl, which will be quite impressive in this segment.

Standing along side of 320d, another model that is especially designed for auto enthusiasts rather than for a conventional buyer is the BMW 328i. The model is incorporated with a petrol engine that features Twinscroll Turbo Technology and generates 245 bhp of highest power with 350 Nm of torque. The output delivered by BMW 328i is far better than that of 320d and thus, it somehow falls behind on the grounds of mileage. The power oriented engine of 328i runs around 14.79 kmpl, which, on a broader approach, is quite accepted in the Indian auto industry.

Apart from the technical background, the car also has many distinctive features, which will make it stand apart from other big players of the Indian auto industry. All the models of new 2012 3 Series will flaunt a start-stop function, which is not available in several cars present in premium sedan segment. Some of the advanced features anticipated to be packed within the new model of BMW include park distance control, xenon headlamps with LED rings, dual-zone climate control and I-Drive system with 16.5 cm display.

In order to ensure a complete safety of its passengers, advancements like Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and a complete package of airbags is also equipped with the new 3 Series. All these features together provide an added essence of safety to the passengers, while comfort being the prime consideration.

Although the launch of the car is around the corner, the exact pricing of the model is not yet declared by the company officials. However, analysts believe that the ex-showroom price of the 2012 3 Series sedan will be around Rs. 30 lacs mark, making it quite suitable for the Indian market.

Considering all the aforementioned features and advancements in an affordable price range, it seems that the new BMW 3 Series will set new heights in terms of comforts and luxuries. Analysts believe that the German car maker is scheduling the aggressive launches in the country to widen up the gap with its compatriots.
