Owing to the substantial growth in Utility Vehicle (UV) segment of Indian industry, the country’s auto market leader, Maruti Suzuki has shifted its focus from hatchback segment to other potential sectors of auto industry. Owing to this, the company has internationally launched its much awaited Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) Ertiga in India on 12th April, 2012. Ertiga was first showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, where it was able to pull the masses with its appealing design and brilliant features.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, S. Nakanishi, Managing Director and CEO, said, “Ertiga is a major step forward for Maruti Suzuki. Many urban families in India are now looking for a vehicle that offers more space and flexibility than a sedan, without being bulky, bland and expensive like a Utility Vehicle. These families are currently having to compromise, and settle for a vehicle which does not meet their lifestyle needs. The Ertiga is designed for these customers; it is another example of our ability to pack power, performance, space and features in a compact package.”

With the launch of this car, Maruti has introduced India’s first Life Utility Vehicle (LUV). The launch of this car has strengthened the car portfolio of Maruti in India and has also established a new segment, LUV, at luring price. In past years, the MPV segment in Indian industry has reported brilliant sales, and thus it registered a growth of 20 per cent (3-year CAGR). In current scenario, MPV segment accounts for a respected share of 10 per cent in Indian auto industry.

The company has launched petrol as well as diesel variants of Ertiga in the Indian auto industry. The 1.4 litre K-series petrol engine of Ertiga is bound to deliver impressive power of 93 bhp with a decent mileage of 16 kmpl. However, the diesel version holds a 1.3 litre DDiS super turbo engine that promises brilliant power of 88 bhp parallel to unmatched fuel economy of 20.77 kmpl.

The car is basically designed to meet the demands of urban families, which is complemented with Suzuki’s ability to incorporate style, compactness and a fuel efficient engine. According to company officials, India is the first market where it will sell Ertiga, which will be further followed by other South East Asian Markets. With a sleek design, the car emerges as a brilliant option for those individuals who are wishing to upgrade to a sedan.

On the other hand, the initial reports of Ertiga’s test drive states that the car features a decent ride with efficient handling capabilities. Considering the exterior appearance of this car, Ertiga holds contemporary and stylish looks, which are not overbearing or huge.
