The Sweden based automaker Volvo has announced the recall of over 17000 units of its S60, S80, XC60 and XC70 models manufactured in the year 2012 due to the probable electric wiring errors that can cause critical injuries in case of accidents. Since the defect is crucial for the company’s global reputation, Volvo is pacing up to recalling these models by the end of this month.

In each of these models, the wiring harness beneath the front seats are not fastened due to which the wiring may get ruptured when the seat adjustments are made. This wiring error further triggers in non functioning of the front and side airbags in case of any collision and the supplemental restraint system warning light does not get displayed due to this defect.

The defect not only affects the working of the airbags but also adversely affects the functioning of other major safety features that need immediate fixation, failure of which would result in serious mishaps.

As a company has to inform about such safety issues to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) within five business days from the date of detection of such defect, Volvo has posted the matter along with the future course of action at the NHTSA website.

The auto manufacturer is recommending the owners of the S60, S80, XC60 and XC70 models of 2012 make to visit their authorized service stations for prompt repair of the wiring error.
