As per the recent industry speculations, the Japanese car maker Mitsubishi Motors is likely to launch a new small car in the Indian market very soon. It is expected that Mitsubishi India may not partner with Hindustan Motors while rolling-out this small car, as the firm looks forward to enhance its market share in the high growth potential Indian market.
It is to be mentioned here that Mitsubishi sell their portfolio models in a joint venture HM in India. The both firms are in a technological collaboration with each other since year 1998. The company is now looking forward to enter the volume driven small car segment in India.
Speaking to the TOI, in a recent statement given at the sidelines of the launch of new Pajero Sport, Masahiko Ueki, Mitsubishi's corporateGMfor Asia & Asean, said, "We are studying several opportunities, and this includes going solo when we launch the small car."
While giving his views on the matter, Mr. A Sankara Narayanan, Director of HM said that the firm is not insisting that Mitsubishi keep HM in (small car project). While the company is open to the idea, it all depends on the volumes that Japanese car maker is looking at for the small car as well as the investments.
