At the 2012 Paris Motor Show, Volvo Car Corporation, widely acknowledged as makers of the world's safest cars, revealed intentions to introduce its new V40 Cross Country crossover in Indian market in the first half of 2013. Since then, the domestic car enthusiasts have been keeping their fingers crossed in anticipation towards the launch of Volvo V40 mild crossover at Indian shores.

Reportedly, the Indian arm of Volvo Car Corporation has set a target of becoming a prominent player in the domestic auto market by 2020 and thus, V40 Cross Country crossover seems like a potent product in achieving that. At present, the Swedish auto giant offers four products in the Indian auto market, with two each in the sedan and Utility Vehicle (UV) segments. Volvo India's sedan fleet comprises S60 and S80 models, while the UV portfolio has two exciting products including compact crossover XC60 and an out-an-out Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) XC90. The Indian Volvo fleet comes in a price range starting around Rs. 25 lacs and goes till Rs. 44 lacs.

However, the Swedish auto major failed to really influence Indian masses, largely due to its feeble fan following and popularity. Despite being sturdy and robust, the Volvo cars somehow fell short in terms of visual appeal and style quotient, which happens to be a major factor among Indian car enthusiasts while purchasing a new car. Evidently, with the enticing new V40 Cross Country crossover, Volvo India will be looking towards changing its brand image and overall outlook in the country.

Pegged by top industry experts as a 'mild crossover,' the Volvo V40 is anticipated to be introduced in both diesel and petrol guises. V40 is expected to come trimmed with a 5 cylinder, 2.0 litre turbo diesel powertrain with Start/Stop function that rolls out a peak power and torque delivery of 148 bhp and 350 Nm, respectively. Further, the power-mill is believed to be assimilated with a six speed Geartronic transmission. Coming to the petrol V40 variant, the crossover is believed to come fitted with a 4 cylinder, direct injection turbo petrol engine, mated with a six speed manual transmission gearbox.

The Volvo V40 Cross Country crossover flaunts appealing good looks and state-of-the-art interior and exterior attributes, which played a big hand in catapulting the car straight into limelight at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Accordingly, the company will be aspiring to cash-in on the sporty and futuristic design of the V40 by presenting it to the Indian audience in the near future. Till then, Indian auto lovers are left with no option but to wait for the delightful Volvo V40.
