Volkswagen had introduced its entry level sedan model Vento in the country last month. It has already received 4000 bookings for the car so far surpassing its expectations and initial targets set for the launch period. "It has been almost 3 weeks since the launch of Vento and already 4000 car units have been booked. The initial response for the Vento has been better than Polo," said Neeraj Garg, member of board and director--VW Passenger cars at VW Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. The car is priced at Rs. 7.90 lakh onwards on road in Delhi, Vento competes with Honda's City, Hyundai's Verna, Maruti Suzuki's SX4 and Fiat's Linea, among others.

Volkswagen also introduced its hatchback model Polo earlier this year but has not been able to deliver the model owing to capacity constraints. Polo currently has a waiting period of 2-3 months.

Meanwhile, to reduce the backlog for the Polo, Volkswagen has started a second shift of production at its factory in Chakan, near Pune in Maharashtra. Since the launch, it has received bookings for 18,000 to 19,000 cars, of which 10,000 to 11,000 are yet to be delivered.

Volkswagen Vento grabbed customer’s attention last week with its “talking advertisement.” The pathbreaking ads placed by Volkswagen appeared on the back pages of special wraparounds published by The Times of India and The Hindu.
