A high ranking official of German car maker Volkswagen announced on 3rd April 2012 that the company will open its new 8 to 10 dealerships in the used car market of the Indian automobile sector. These outlets will become operational by the end of 2012, according to Neeraj Garg, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, India.

He stated, “It is a global plan for us. It's called Das Wealth Auto. This is what we have announced at the Auto Expo on January 5 that we are going to bring Das Wealth Auto into the country and start the pilot by the Q2 of this calendar year." He further added, "By the end of this year possibly, we will have around eight to ten dealers on a pilot-basis."

Depending on the success of pilot project during the initial stages, Volkswagen will expand the used car dealership network across the country. The dealers involved in the pilot project will mark their presence in big towns, Tier 1 and Tier 2 towns.

Garg said, "It is a well-known fact that customers do not have a disciplined used cars sales process. It is speculated that the number of used car transactions are equal to the number of new car transactions."

In addition, Garg, who unveiled the IPL Edition II of Volkswagen Polo and Vento, stated that the used car dealerships of Volkswagen may sell any model by all manufacturers, not just VW. The car maker will ensure that the vehicles it sells at its pre-owned outlets have decent levels of quality.
