The largest European car maker Volkswagen is planning to launch an all new small car in the developing countries like Indian, China and Brazil. As per the industry sources, the new Volkswagen small car would be carrying a fuel efficient 800 CC engine in the petrol version and a 1.2L engine in the diesel variant.

The launch of a new small car in the Indian market is a part of company’s future expansion plans in the country. It is to be mentioned here that Volkswagen is aiming to become the largest car maker in the world by year 2018. In India, the company aims to capture about 8 to 10 percent market share by then.

The new Volkswagen 800 CC small car will be based on company’s popular UP! Model and will be developed after taking into consideration the needs and requirements of the buyers of these countries, and also the road and climate conditions.

The emerging markets like India have a high growth potential in the small car segment, where a large number of middle class buyers are looking forward to upgrade from two-wheeler to small car segment.

At present, Maruti Alto is the largest selling small car in the Indian market with monthly sales falling over 30,000 units on an average. Volkswagen would definitely look to eat into the market share of Alto with its upcoming small car.
