      Two week long strike ends at Manesar, Maruti to resume production

      The strike at Maruti’s Manesar plant ended on Thursday night though differences between management and agitating workers are yet to be cleared fully. Meanwhile, the newly formed employee union has started the process of its formal registration.

      According to MSEU (Maruti Suzuki Employee Union) general secretary Shiv Kumar, "We have already filed for registration of our union at Chandigarh and will try to formally register it with the Haryana government in the coming days" He added that as soon their application gets approved by the state labour department, MSEU will come into effect.

      At the same time, Maruti Suzuki resumed operations at its Manesar plant from Saturday. The company has incurred revenue losses of up to Rs 600 crore due to production loss of 13,200 cars. As per a senior Maruti Suzuki executive, the company will resume production on Saturday and all 11 workers have been taken back though it would be followed by an internal inquiry to in view of possible disciplinary action.

      Maruti Suzuki currently manufactures about 4 lakh cars per annum at this plant, besides production of about 8 lakh units at its Gurgaon plant.
