TVS Motors as a brand has been strongly growing in the two wheeler segment in the country. The bike maker has been a popular name in the budget friendly and power bike segment in the country. Recently, Sudarshan Venu, son of the company's chairman and managing director Venu Srinivasan had married Tara, granddaughter of the late D Jayavarthanavelu of Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW), in Chennai. Post the grand occasion, the company has announced Sudarshan and his sister Lakshmi as the joint managing director and nonexecutive director respectively.
TVS Motors has tagged this move as in the interest of steadily increasing market shares with the appointment of Sudarshan. This move has also reportedly “"considerably increased his engagement in and contribution to the progress of the firm”. Moreover, it is said that Sudharshan is passionate about bikes and cars, hence had joined the board of Sundaram Clayton in September 2011, a maker of aluminium die-casting and also an investment arm inside the TVS group. His sister then reportedly preceded him to the Sundaram Clayton post in March 2010.
Speaking on the occasion a senior TVS official said, “The last two years have been challenging and Sudarshan has helped the company sail safe. TVS Motor exports to 53 countries and of these, 14 countries were added after Sudarshan joined.” Sudarshan holds a graduation degree in Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology from the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a masters' degree in international technology management at the Warwick Manufacturing Group.
