Small car segment in India has been pretty strong with most new car buyers opting for compact cars rather than going for a luxury make. Japanese carmaker Toyota has been known to deliver quality cars across the globe and the brand also holds this quality image in the domestic market as well. Reports also suggest that about 70-80% sales in the market are generated from vehicle in under 7 Lakhs segment. For a while now, Toyota has been not provided much option in this hot-selling segment, and with the introduction of a compact car in this price range.
Details on the pricing aspect or technical specification for the Sub-Compact car from Toyota Kirloskar is unknown for now and shall only be known at a later date, probably at an official announcement event from the company. The car is likely to be a strong competitor to Maruti's Alto 800, Datsun's Go and Hyundai's Eon. Currently, most of Research and Development activity for the brand is handled at Toyota's facility in Thailand and Japan and with most of its competitors opting for localization in India, Toyota has also been considering to launch its Research and development center in the domestic market. Moreover, it shall also create and work around a large network of local suppliers.
