The Maruti Suzuki Autocross is one of the rallies being organized by Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) since the past 11 years. An autocross event that was held at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida marked the end of Maruti Autocross 2012, on 24th December. In the final event, a 2.4 km track section with several twists and turns was allotted to the participants that had to be covered in the shortest possible time. 56 drivers were pitted against each other in this competition.
In the Maruti Suzuki Autocross event across the country, as many as 140 persons took part in the various categories. Interestingly, 40 percent of these participants took part for the first time and 20 per cent of drivers were women. Pleased with the organization of the event, Manohar Bhatt, Vice President of Marketing at MSIL said, “For over 10 years now, Maruti Suzuki has been an ardent supporter of motorsport rallies. Maruti Suzuki Autocross is now the best stepping stone for drivers who have a passion for rallying and racing. Competitions like Autocross and rallies like Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya, Maruti Suzuki Desert Strom & Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare offer thrill, joy and adventure, which are all part of the core DNA of Maruti Suzuki motor sports. The participants showed immense grit and determination and great sportsmanship. I would like to congratulate the winners and wish them all the luck in the future.”
Maruti’s Autocross event does not require individuals to invest in registration. It is a fundamental method of teaching motorsports at the lowest level, so that individuals get an idea of the handling of their vehicles. This also provides a platform for motorsports enthusiasts to showcase their talents in front of large audiences, and win prizes in the process.
