      Tata Sumo Gold and Mahindra Bolero; giving neck-to-neck competition to each other

      The Indian Auto market today has more number of Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) than ever before. A series of launches this festive season further increased the already long list of the vehicles across many segments in the country. Mahindra Bolero and Tata Sumo Gold are two widely popular entry level utility vehicles in India. We analyse Bolero DI BSIII, Diesel variant and Tata Gold CX, Diesel variant over a number of parameters and try to find out which is better of the two vehicles.

      Bolero houses a 2.5 litre, 16V DI Turbo Diesel engine capable of delivering a maximum power of 63 bhp at 3200 rpm, whereas Gold CX is powered by a 3.0 litre CR4 engine capable of churning a maximum power between 80.5 bhp and 83.1 bhp at 3000 rpm. The maximum engine displacement of Bolero DI BSIII is 2523cc, whereas that of Gold CX is 2956 cc. The engine of both the vehicle comes mated with manual transmission.

      When it comes to fuel economy, both the vehicles offers a decent mileage. While Bolero offers a city mileage of 9.4 kmpl and a highway mileage of 13.6 kmpl, Sumo Gold offers a fuel economy of 11.03 kmpl on the city roads and 14.07 kmpl on the highway. Thus, so far as fuel economy is concerned, Sumo Gold is slightly better than the Bolero.

      The Sumo Gold has an SUV design, which gives it a sporty look. The car is available in six colours, which include Arctic White, Light Gold, Castle Grey, Artic Silver, Dew White and Sardinia Red. The new Mahindra Bolero, on the other hand, has a simple yet very attractive look and is available in 6 colours. The interiors of Bolero is comfortable, sporty, stylish and has plenty of space. On the other hand interiors of Sumo Gold is equally good with fabric upholstery that matches its overall look and style. Bolero has a seating capacity for 8 people whereas Sumo Gold has a seating capacity for 7 & 9 people.

      None of these two variants of the entry level utility vehicles are provided with air conditioner, CD player, Antilock Braking System, Power Steering, Power Windows, Leather Seats or Central Locking. While the Mahindra Bolero DI BSIII is available for Rs. 5.61 lacs, Tata Sumo Gold CX comes with a price tag of Rs. 5.76 lacs. Though, Tata Sumo Gold is priced slightly higher than the Bolero, Gold looks much better and impressive than its competitor.
