Tata Motors’s African subsidiary, Tata Africa, is ready to start assembly plant in West Africa. “The unit sales of the model should hit one thousand per year in the country,” says Tata Africa''s Regional director for West Africa, Sudeep Ray. The second hand car market is extremely aggressive in Africa and competes strongly with new brands being launched.

"Definitely for Nigeria we''re planning an assembly plant. We started operation one and half years ago and the last one year has been a learning period to understand which models will be doing well here and accordingly we will be looking at an assembly operation going forward in the next two to three years," he said.

Tata Motors’ vehicles are known for “value for money” and can easily withstand tough road conditions. The driving conditions in Africa are similar to those in India and Tata Motors hopes to capitalise on the same. Tata Motors has identified two of the models for the African market and one of them is definitely going to be buses. The bus body will be assembled in Africa while the chassis will be imported from India.
