Brazil has barred sales of nine locally produced models of Toyota Corolla in the country. Toyota’s Brazilian subsidiary has been asked to rectify the defects that remained un-notified to the relevant authorities, car buyers nor were they visible in the model. Amauri Artimos da Matta, the head of the AG office's consumer affairs division stated that the ban will be lifted only when the defects are corrected in the new as well as existing vehicles in the market. Toyota’s Brazilian subsidiary company Toyota do Brasil Ltda has not commented on the ban.

Meanwhile, Toyota in Brazil has now agreed to recall a number of its Corolla vehicles manufactured from April 2008 – 2010. This is in conjunction with the sudden acceleration problems that have affected other models.

On the other hand, Toyota Corolla Altis diesel model continues to raise doubts in the Indian market as well. Now the company is ready to introduce two of the new engine options in existing Toyota Corolla Altis model. One of them could be 1.4L common rail engine that is currently present in Toyota Yaris internationally. Other option available is the two litre D-4D turbo-diesel engine that presently powers the European version of Corolla Altis.
