Tata Motors, the largest vehicle maker in the country, is mulling to set-up new manufacturing facilities in a number of overseas markets. The move will be taken in a bid to enhance company’s footprints in the global auto market. The company is looking forward to develop fuel efficient vehicles that will be marketed in both domestic and foreign markets.

While elaborating its future plans in its Annual Report for 2010-11, the company said, "The company will aggressively pursue opportunities in the international markets as part of its internationalization drive including evaluation of possible overseas manufacturing."

The company however has not revealed details regarding the locations where it plans to establish new manufacturing units. However, Tata Motors had announced earlier this month that it would be commencing operations of a new commercial vehicle assembly plant in South African market.

In a statement given to ET, the Tata Motors spokesman said, "The company is evaluating options across the world. At first, the evaluation is about which product is relevant for which market. After that it will be decided whether the product will be exported or manufactured locally."

At present, the company has truck assembly units in Thailand and Bangladesh and manufactures the pick-up Xenon in Thailand. The company has a bus building unit in South Africa. Moreover, Tata Motors’s South African subsidiary had recently acquired a truck facility from Japanese auto giant Nissan.

Meanwhile, the company’s British subsidiary Jaguar and Land Rover will continue launching new products and variants to enhance its foot prints in a number of growth markets including China, Russia, India and Brazil, as said in the report.

While further elaborating its strategy, the company said in the report that it will continue to focus on retaining its advantage of market reach and penetration along with introducing new products, variants and fuel efficient products.
