The rumour-mill is abuzz with speculations regarding the introduction of Swift Sport in the Indian passenger car market, since last year. The unveiling of Swift Sport in UK is expected to further fuel the grapevine with more gossip and interest for the car's launch on the Indian turf. However, this time many industry experts feel that Maruti Suzuki could ultimately launch the ultra sporty Swift Sport compact in the country by the end of 2013 calendar year.

The platform of Swift was developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation, the Japanese multinational automobile giant, which has been one of the company's top models all across the globe. Suzuki UK offers its Swift Sport hatch in both 1.2 litre and 1.6 litre petrol engine options in the SZ-R and SZ-L trim levels, respectively. The 1.2 litre engine option churns out a peak power of 94 bhp, whereas the bigger 1.6 litre motor is much more powerful and belts out an astounding maximum output power of 134 bhp.

It must be noted that the stylish Swift hatchback straight away struck the core sentiments of domestic car enthusiasts, upon its introduction in the country's passenger car market. Owing to its audacious sporty appeal and an overtly impressive engine performance, the Indian launch of Swift Sport is followed by a lot of individuals, who are interested in buying a new vehicle.

Upon its launch in the Indian auto market, the Swift Sport will compete against the likes of Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia, which features a 1.6 litre powertrain under their hoods. Further, Fiat has also revealed intentions to bring its Abarth developed version of Grande Punto premium hatch in the domestic passenger car market, which belts out a peak power output close to 150 bhp. Conventionally, the compact hatchbacks were viewed as cars with small engines and modest mileage by the industry experts. Hence, the launch of Suzuki Swift Sport has all the necessary requisites that could start a new revolution in terms of powerful and big-engine hatchbacks in the Indian auto market.
