After launching Celerio hatchback in manual and automated manual transmission options in India, Suzuki is now eyeing launching the hatchback in Thailand. However, Suzuki will proffer a continuously variable automatic variant of the B segment car in Thailand owing to the eco car standards of Thailand. Suzuki has already exhibited CVT variant of Celerio hatchback at the ongoing Bangkok Motor Show. The company will manufacture Celerio at the Rayong unit which will also be the production base for its exports to European markets. Manufacturing is likely to commence from May 2014 which implies that the launch will happen soon in the upcoming months.

Suzuki will house Thailand-spec Celerio with a K10B 1.0 litre, three cylinder, indirect injection, petrol motor that is good for 68PS at 6,000 RPM and 90 Nm at 3,500 RPM. Besides the CVT transmission, Suzuki will also launch a five speed manual transmission variant of Celerio in Thailand.

Inside the cabin, semblance of India-spec and Thailand-spec Celerio is identical except the new gear lever for the CVT trim. A capacious cabin, roomier boot offering ample space for storing luggage and comfy legroom will be offered by the Suzuki Celerio

In India, Celerio’s demand has surpassed company’s expectations. The rising demand for the hatchback has lead to revving up its production to 10,000 units per month from the present 5,000 monthly units. Launched in the beginning of February at the 2014 Auto Expo, Celerio has roped in 30,000 bookings till date in the domestic market, resulting in stretched waiting period for the hatchback. Currently there is a waiting period of 3 months for the manual variant and six months waiting for the automated manual transmission version. The slash in excise duty seems to have worked in Celerio’s favour as the price of hatchback was reduced to Rs 3.76 lakh from the previous Rs 3.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). However, the company might revise price of Celerio in the coming months as this is the introductory price which is currently successfully luring customers.
