Suzuki Motorcycle India Ltd. (SMIL) is planning to launch Inazuma GW250, a naked street bike, in the Indian market in January 2014. This bike will come equipped with a 248 cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, four-stroke engine. The company is planning to bring this model through the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route, followed by assembling at its Gurgaon plant. Industry experts are of a view that the launch of this motorcycle in the market will further intensify the competition in the 250 cc segment. It is expected to compete with established bikes like Honda CBR250R, KTM 200 Duke and Kawasaki Ninja 300.

The bike company is more likely to adopt an aggressive pricing strategy to market this vehicle in India. No wonder, many experts think that the success of this bike will immensely depend on its pricing, which is somehow true. According to the report published by AutoCar India, besides Inazuma GW250, the two-wheeler maker is working on at least one new product in scooter and commuter bike segments. At present, the company has Access 125 and Swish 125 in its scooter portfolio. The company also sells one commuter bike in each 110 cc (Hayate), 125 cc (Slingshot) and 150 cc (GS150R) categories.

Expressing his view son the same, Atul Gupta, Executive Vice president, Suzuki Motorcycle India, said, “We are going to launch the 250 cc motorcycle next month (January 2014) and new products to expand our current portfolio in the upcoming Auto Expo 2014. We are equally focussing on the scooters and the motorcycles.” However, Gupta did not reveal information about specifications of upcoming products. He also added, “We are absent in almost 60 percent of the existing markets domestically, so we are focussing on the dealership expansion. We are also expanding our production capacity by nearly 25 percent at our Gurgaon facility as we want to be ready while entering new territories.”
