Speculation: Mahindra Bolero facelift in the making

Mahindra’s plan of rolling out new UVs in domestic market is underway; the company on the other hand is also planning to roll out its existing UVs in new avatar. It is no secret that Mahindra’s popular SUV, Scorpio is due for a comprehensive facelift which could be launched in upcoming months in the domestic market. Speculations are rife that the popular UV maker is also thinking on the lines to come up with a tweaked version of Bolero.

The vehicle is popular especially in rural markets owing to its rugged and robust nature. If media reports are to be believed, a vehicle was spotted undergoing test runs in Chennai around company’s Research Centre and it is being believed that the spotted vehicle was new generation Bolero.Despite being present in domestic market for a long time, demand for Bolero has not weakened. Monthly sales data shows that Mahindra sells around 10,000 units of Bolero every month.

However, with such harsh competition it has become important to offer something new to maintain the sales momentum of any vehicle. Therefore, following the same philosophy, Mahindra seems to be working on the new Bolero. Though there is no official word out yet on development of new Bolero from the auto maker, but rumors suggest that the Bolero facelift is being developed under the codename U301.

Vehicle spotted in Chennai sported short overhangs, new bonnet and halogen head lamps. Sources close to the development opine that the new Bolero could come with body-on-frame construction. It is also being said that a sub-four meter variant of the vehicle could also be offered. Under the hood, a 1.5 litre three cylinder, diesel powertrain currently doing duty in Quanto could be housed in new generation Bolero.
