      Skoda India to launch a small car below Fabia by 2013

      Skoda Auto, the Czech Republic based car maker, has confirmed that it is developing a new small car below the segment of its hatchback Fabia. The new Skoda small car, which is expected to be priced in the range of sub Rs 4 lakh, will compete with the likes of Maruti Wagon R and A-Star, Hyundai Santro Xing and Chevrolet Spark. By launching this new small car, Skoda India aims to mark its debut in the volume driven small car segment, which will help the company in enhancing its market share in the country.

      According to the company, the new small car will be launched by year 2013. The new car will be offered in both diesel and petrol versions and is expected to be offering a considerably high mileage. Mr. Thomas Kuehl, Marketing Head, Skoda India, said that the company’s proposed small car will be up to 70 percent locally sourced, helping the company in keeping the price of the car highly competitive. The car will be manufactured at the company’s Chakan facility in Pune.

      Besides Skoda Fabia, all other India portfolio cars of Skoda are above the range of Rs 10 lakh that includes sedan Skoda Laura and premium SUV Skoda Yeti.
