Ahead of its official launch in 2019, BMW has unveiled the second generation X4 coupe crossover. The new model is indeed more of a coupe version of the X3 and internationally it will be available in regular and xLine variants. Dubbed a Sports Activity Vehicle by BMW, the new X4 will be bigger than its predecessor.

Mechanically, the 2019 BMW X4 is available in three petrol and three diesel engine options. The xDrive20i, is powered by a 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine that generates 181bhp at 6,500rpm and 290Nm of torque from 1,350 to 4,250rpm. The same four-pot engine is available on the xDrive30i, but offers higher power figures of 250bhp and 350Nm of torque. A 2.0 litre turbodiesel is also available, churning out 188bhp and 400 Nm in the xDrive20d and 229bhp and 500Nm in the xDrive25d. Sometime by third quarter a 3.0 litre straight-six will be added to the range in August powering the xDrive30d, which will generate 262bhp and impressive 620Nm of torque from just 2,000 rpm.

In terms of design, the new BMW X4 gets an identical fascia in form of trapezoidal headlamps which are flanked by large kidney grille. The bumper has been redesigned and now gets a more aggressive stance. The vehicle gets a characteristic low-slung roofline which sweeps towards the rear deck. As seen in images, the rear gets slim three-dimensional L-shaped tail lights and a bumper-mounted number plate. The xLine variant gets matte aluminium highlights and 19-and 20-inch alloy wheels. For a sportier look, there’s the usual M Sport package with sportier front and rear bumpers and body-coloured cladding.

As for the interior, the new X4 features a lower dash profile and gets a freestanding infotainment display. The new model now offers an additional 27mm of rear legroom space along with an additional 25 litres of boot space, thereby bringing the total to 525 litres. With the standard 40:20:40-split rear seats folded, the boot space has now been increased to 1,430 litres. The vehicle gets larger panoramic roof, power-adjustable seats with heating and ventilation, three-zone automatic climate control and acoustic side windows. The new X4 also gets a standard 6.5-inch centre display, while 10.25-inch touchscreen with Professional navigation system is optional.
