After opening to a good start, Duster’s sales seem have to slow down, thanks to its new rival EcoSport. In a bid to outnumber its present and upcoming competition, French car maker has planned a facelift for the compact SUV. Launch is expected to take place by the festive season, backing the speculation are the test mules spotted numerous times running across the country. Renault is likely to give minor tweaks to the SUV on both exterior and interior front. Exteriors are speculated to sport a reworked front grille, blacked out head lights and additional claddings. Based on the feedback from customers, the company will also spruce up interiors; modifications will be made to make it more plush and chic.

India bound Duster is unlikely to don comprehensive additions like its global version. Reason being that the SUV has not even completed two years in the domestic market yet. Probably the new version rolling out by festive season could be used as a buffer before the 2014 global version flaunting multiple changes makes entry in India. Renault’s solo stint in India became successful with the launch of Duster compact SUV. Launched in July 2012, Duster could be referred as the first actual compact size SUV in India followed by its rivals Quanto, EcoSport and Terrano.

Renault has big plans for Duster and to make it conspicuous among its competition the car maker is also thinking on the lines of equipping Duster with 4X4 system. The 4X4 system could be bestowed on the top-of-the-line diesel trim, the petrol trims will continue to be offered with front wheel drive system only. Among Duster’s rivals, EcoSport is gaining popularity with a fast pace. Within few months of its launch the SUV has garnered unprecedented response and is attracting a waiting period of six months leading to Ford revving up its production capacity. The prolonged waiting period for EcoSport can work in favour of Duster as customers who are not willing to wait for such a long time can switch to Duster.
