Production at Maruti Suzuki India plants decreases further as strike continues

With the yet another strike at Maruti’s Manesar plant entering its sixth day, the manufacturing operations of Maruti Suzuki in the Indian market seems to be heading toward a complete halt. On Tuesday, the company managed to roll-out only one-third units (mere 100 units) of cars from its Gurgaon plant as compared to the total daily output of 2,800 units.

While workers agitation at the Manesar plant of the firm kept the production at a complete halt, the production work at Gurgaon plant remained partially halted due to shortage of essential car components, as supplier Suzuki Power-trains India Limited is also struggling with halted production due to strike of workers.

Meanwhile, the striking workers have been asked to respond to the legal notice slapped by the Haryana Government, blaming ‘breach of settlement’ signed by the workers unit on October 1st, while ending a 33 day long strike. The workers went on a fresh strike on Friday, demanding reinstatement of over 1000 casual workers at the plant.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the company said, "The Manesar plant of Maruti Suzuki continues to remain captive in the hands of striking workers. No production took place at the plant today." It added that the production at the company's Gurgaon plant had further come down on Tuesday as there was no supply of diesel engines and also transmissions from SPIL due to workers remaining on strike at the SPIL plant.
