Seems like vehicles will soon get more frugal as the Government of India has apprised new fuel efficiency norms for passenger vehicles. These new norms are called the Corporate Average Fuel Consumption (CAFL) as per which the passenger vehicles are required to be 14 percent more fuel economic by 2016-2017. Once this is achieved, the fuel efficiency is expected to improve by 38 percent in the next five years, thereafter. The new norms will be applied on vehicles running on petrol, diesel and gas.

The new norms are inducted by the ministry of road and transport and highways, there are a few more nations like Germany, Japan, China and United Nations that follow the same norms. With the implementation of these norms, India will also fall in the same league as the above mentioned nations who foist such stern norms and penalize for any kind of violation.

In India, passenger vehicles, which includes cars, utility vehicles and vans have a fuel economy limit of round 16kmpl. However, with the implementation of these new norms, the vehicles will deliver an average mileage of 18.2kmpl by 2016-2017 and 22kmpl in the next five years. Once the new fuel efficiency norms are executed a lot of money and fuel being spent on importing fuel will be saved. Based on the weight of the vehicles, the fuel consumption of vehicles will be calculated.
