Mitsubishi Motors India, a subsidiary of the Japanese multinational automotive major Mitsubishi Group, has witnessed great success with the local assembly of its premium Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Pajero Sport in the domestic market. The Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly of Pajero Sport has resulted in an extremely sharp fall in the retail cost of premium SUV. Accordingly, the Japanese utility vehicle maker recorded some incredible sales in domestic market, since it commenced retailing of the Indian made Pajero Sport models.

The Pajero brand has been Mitsubishi's flagship offering, which has established quite an extraordinary fan following in the country. Previously, the company retailed its ultra modish and top class Pajero Sport premium SUV via Completely Built Unit (CBU) route, which resulted in its steep pricing and 'not-so' remarkable sales in the country. Hence, its local assembly helped Mitsubishi in maintaining an extremely competitive pricing, which came in handy towards challenging the stiff market competition.

At present, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport competes against the likes of other premium SUVs like Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Mahindra's SsangYong Rexton, Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan X-trail and Honda CR-V in the Indian utility vehicle market. Evidently, the Japanese auto maker's strategy worked well, if one considers incredible sales of Pajero Sport, since its price cut in the country.

Reportedly, when Pajero Sport was offered to Indian consumers via CBU route, it carried along a price tag ranging between Rs. 22.5 lakhs and Rs. 25 lakhs in the domestic utility vehicle market. Post commencement of retail operations of the locally assembled Pajero Sport, the premium SUV is offered to local audience within price range Rs. 21 lakhs and Rs. 22.6 lakhs.

Mitsubishi Motors India has also revealed intentions to stay focussed on its utility vehicle portfolio in the Indian auto market. The Japanese auto maker stressed that it will continue to expand its market presence by introducing more utility vehicles, which seems like a pretty fruitful strategy so far. The stylish Pajero Sport has worked wonders and the company will be expecting its future products to follow the same suit.
