Cars makers in India, in the recent past, have recalled thousands of units of their models for rectification of errors. Ford, the American auto giant, made the largest announcement in history of the Indian car market when it recalled over 1.6 lakh units of two of its models for making some adjustments. Unfortunately, this recall involves two of its best selling cars, namely the Figo hatchback and the Sail sedan. According to sources, the American auto giant has spotted some problem in the rear suspension and the steering system. Also, this is not the first time that these models have been recalled for a rectification as only last year during August, Ford made a recall of over lakh units of these cars.

Officials from the company stated that it plans to take quick action and ensure that all the problems are rectified soon. Sources claim that there might be an issue in the rear axle of these units, which can cause instability in handling, braking and driving. Apart from this, the power steering hose of around 34000 cars are likely to be replaced after the problem was identified. According to reports, this recall will be applicable to Classic and Figo cars that were produced during the period starting January 2010 and ending June 2012.

The firm released a statement in which it stated the recall of both of these models for the rectification of glitch. "Ford India is extending its existing voluntary field service action (FSA) and will recall the remaining batches of Ford Figo and Ford Classic models to inspect them for potential issues related to the rear twist beam (RTB) and the power assisted steering (PAS) hose," the statement read.

Reports suggest that the auto maker is going to inspect rear axle of the recalled model for any sort of cracks, which create noise at first and subsequently, lead to poor handling of the car. On the other hand, the power steering hose of some models could possibly have a problem of oil leaking. Sources close to this development have claimed that the fluid leak has the potential to cause fire in the vehicle, if it manages to make contact with the exhaust components.

According to statistics, the company is going inspect around 1.09 lakh and 22.4 thousand units of the Figo and Classic cars for a problem in the rear beam, respectively. This recall is being considered more of a preventive measure as it is not necessary that all units would need replacement of the rear beam. As far as the power steering hose is concerned, it is being said that over 30000 units of the Figo and 3400 units of the Classic would be checked and replacement would be done if required. The units that are being recalled for steering replacement were manufactured during the period between January and August in the year 2010. Fortunately for the company, till date there have been no reported complaints, accidents or injuries related to the two parts.

Incredibly, this is the eighth time in the year 2013 that a company has staged a recall of vehicles, a statistic that is an all time record. Only recently, in the month of July, another American auto maker, General Motors, was involved in huge controversy, wherein it recalled around 1.1 lakh units of the Tavera. This incident created a lot of issues and dealt a severe blow to the reputation of the American company. Things were worsened when the firm had to recall units of the Sail sedan and U-VA hatchback in September.
