Hyundai i10 lovers may have to wait till 2013 for its diesel version. The Korean autoamaker has deferred its plans to launch the diesel variant of i10 for at least next two years. According to the latest report from Autocar India, Hyundai i10 will have localised diesel engine for its i10 model coming to India.

Earlier, it was reported by CNBC-TV that Hyundai may be moving ahead with plans to launch the diesel variant by end of 2010. The car was likely to be fitted with a 1.1 L CRDi engine delivering better fuel economy and improved driveability. It was expected that the diesel engine will be sourced from the parent company and each car’s transmission will be constructed at its Chennai plant.

Other sources had also reported that Hyundai had plans to invest at least Rs. 500 crore to construct a factory of 100,000 capacity to manufacture diesel engines with an aim to manufacture diesel engines for its cars in India including i10 and i20 models. However, the recent exclusive report from Autocar India seems to defy all the speculations made earlier.
