Nissan has especially developed its V-platform for the emerging markets. The platform will be used to build cars starting from a hatchback version onwards, the first being the Nissan Micra that will enter the Indian market in May 2010. Nissan intends to roll out 9 models in India in next two years which will include two more hatchbacks, a sedan and an MPV. All these models will be built on this new platform developed by the company. The remaining models will be imported as completely built unit in India.

Nissan has its manufacturing unit near Chennai which is shared with French automaker Renault. The company intends to make India as its export hub mainly due to its low cost of production and strategic location for exports to several countries. The new cars built on the new platform will be tweaked for the developed markets and complemented with more features that will comply with safety features in Europe and other countries.

The new Micra built on V-platform in India will replace the sub-compact cars in Europe and a sedan version will be available later in the year. A mini-MPV will also roll out from this platform later in the year.
