India-bound Nissan Kicks production begins in Mexico

Nissan has started producing the Kicks SUV at Nissan Aguascalientes A1 plant, Mexico. This SUV will also be introduced in India as a part of the carmaker's plan of launching the vehicle in many more countries.

Nissan's A1 facility now manufactures the new Kicks in addition to its other cars the Sentra, Note, March (Micra) and Versa (Sunny). The SUV will be initially sold only in Latin America, with plans to extend to more than 80 countries across the globe. India is also amongst these many markets planned by the carmaker.

The Kicks currently being produced is based on Nissan's V platform that underpins the afore-mentioned models. The car comes powered by a 1.6-litre flex-fuel mill that churns out 114bhp of power and 152Nm of torque. This unit comes mated to an X-tronic CVT transmission.

However, the Nissan Kicks that will make it to the Indian market will be significantly different from the current one. It might be based on the CMF-B platform that will form the basis for the second-gen Nissan Juke and next-gen Renault Duster. We can still expect it to be cosmetically similar. Whenever Nissan starts manufacturing the Kicks in India, we can also expect a lot of component sharing from its siblings. It now remains to be seen when Nissan will come storming back with this Kicks SUV for the Indian market.
