Nissan’s zero-emission electric car model ‘Leaf’ is available for limited test drive in Japan and United States. The company has launched a test drive week for its customers in both the countries to let them experience a completely eco-friendly car six months before its commercial launch in the two markets. Nissan has already received 20,000 bookings for the model in both the countries.

The exclusive preview of Nissan Leaf began from June 10 where more than 500 people including auto journalists, customers who have placed their bookings, share holders and government officials are invited to preview the car and take a test drive till June 19.

Nissan has its partnership with French auto maker Renault which are gearing up to become the first auto manufacturers to roll out fully electric cars in the world and introduce eight electric models by 2012. Nissan launches commercially in Japan in December 2010.

One of the star attractions of Nissan Leaf is its on-board tele-matics system which tells the driver how far the car can go on current charge and how far is the next charging station.
