The new-generation Nissan Micra will be launched in India in 2017 and this will be an all-new vehicle. The new-generation Micra will be built on a hybrid platform that will be using the existing one and even the European one (the Sway concept). The new-generation Micra will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine and an all-new 1.2-litre dies engine as well.

At the moment, Nissan and Renault are testing a 1.2-litre diesel engine that will be the three-cylinder version of the 1.6-litre dCi that will be powering the X-Trail. This will be tweaked for better performance and even enhanced for higher fuel efficiency too. This will be a new engine and it will be powering the Nissan and Datsun products. Renault and Nissan are also working towards making sharing engine parts between petrol and diesel engines to reduce the investment and at the same time making it easier and a lot more flexible to swap to a new set of parts.

The new-generation Micra will get its design cues from the Sway concept that was showcased at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. It will be the underpinnings that will be undergoing a change to suit the requirements of the Indian car market. Nissan won’t be exporting the Micra from India to Europe, but rather to other markets like Africa, Gulf and other parts of Asia. Europe will be manufacturing its new Micra in Renault’s French plant. The new-generation Sunny will also be base don this platform. Nissan has increased its focus towards making more UVs as there has been an increase in demand for them in our market.
