Strong rumours had been doing rounds regarding the introduction of this model but no date was confirmed by the company. This sedan was showcased at an event in Germany and attracted a lot of attention from buyers and critics. Currently, it is available in a number of European and American markets. Some sources say that this car was scheduled to make its début at the upcoming Auto Expo 2014 but certain reasons propelled the luxury auto maker to change its decision. It is being said that Mercedes-Benz is facing a problem as the stock of current version (W221) has run out and bookings for the upcoming one are overflowing. In order to cope with these difficulties, which are good ones, the firm is looking to launch new S-Class soon. These reports are truly indicative of the kind of momentum Mercedes-Benz has in the Indian market at present. It also gives an insight into the ironic situations that exist, wherein sales of mass cars are declining and luxury auto makers are facing excess demand.

Initially, as per reports, Mercedes-Benz will introduce only one variant of this vehicle, the top-spec S 500. This car is expected to carry a hefty ex-showroom price tag in excess of Rs. 1.5 crore. It is believed that this car is going to be brought to India as a Complete Built Unit (CBU), something that has certainly affected its pricing. Experts have marvelled at the fact that despite such a heavy price tag, bookings for this model are overflowing. It is directly in contrast with the sentiment that exists among consumers in the mass car segment. One can recall a top official from Rolls-Royce claiming sometime ago that the demand for these high-end vehicles is ill-affected by market conditions and economic scenarios. Although there is no comparison between Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Rolls-Royce Wraith, if this premise put into context, it totally makes sense.

The new S-Class has a breathtaking design that is a combination of class, style and aerodynamics. It boasts of a three-dimensional radiator grille, sloping tail end and long bonnet, which add to the classic saloon appearance. Mercedes-Benz S-Class is expected to be loaded with a number of technologically advanced features, which will enhance comfort and convenience levels. As far as the engine specifications are concerned, the new model will deliver superb power and torque figures. New Mercedes-Benz S-Class is going to be powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 engine mated to a 7G-Tronic plus transmission system. This 4.7-litre petrol engine is going to deliver an output of around 460 bhp along with peak torque of 700 Nm. Although nothing is confirmed at the moment, the German company could bring in the low-spec diesel version S350 CDI, which will feature a 3.0-litre engine.

Industry experts feel that Mercedes-Benz is going to carry its current good run into 2014 and achieve great success. From what it looks like, the firm is not going to stop after the introduction of new S-Class. Some sources claim that Auto Expo 2014 will see the showcasing of GLA and CLA models, which will be launched later in the year. If things keep on going like this, it would not be long before Mercedes-Benz reclaims its top position in the Indian luxury car market, leaving behind BMW and Audi.
