Hyundai released official images of the new Sonata i40 which may also be Asia and India bound. Hyundai i40 will replace Hyundai Sonata in Europe and the European model is not expected to be dramatically too different from this one.
The new i40 will go on sale in the UK in late 2010. The insiders vouch for the ‘wow factor’ of the car that holds promise to fetch a premium for the model. "We expect the car to be close to or class-leading in every department such as emissions, handling, ride and so on, but what really marks it out is that it will sell on its looks as well as all its other attributes," said a Hyundai insider. “The design of this car is every bit as big a leap forward for the sector as the Accent to the i30 [in the European and US markets] was for its sector.”
The engine range is described by an insider as "exceptional" and will include the 'R' diesels recently announced for the ix35 and Santa Fe, plus a series of small petrol and diesel engines.
Hyundai cars have finally started getting their perfect designs. Based on the ‘fluidic concept’, the new i40 speaks the same language that started with i-series car. Later Hyundai’s crossover model Tucson also underwent a complete plastic surgery to get the fluid like look.
The official launch of the car is slated for mid-September and sales start in October 2009 in Korea. Sales in the US and Europe will begin only early next year.
