Hyundai is ready with its brand new SUV model Santa Fe for the Indian market. This is Hyundai’s third attempt to tap the ever growing SUV segment in India where its earlier models Terracan and Tucson have failed. Hyundai is planning to introduce the model around Diwali time to capitalise on the vehicle buying mood of Indian customers around the time of auspicious festival in India. Currently, the SUV segment in India is the second largest growing segment in passenger car sales of which nearly 18-20 percent growth of the segment comes from premium SUVs.
"We will launch Sante Fe in October-November, ahead of the festive season. If volumes pick up, then we will consider assembling the vehicle here," said Arvind Saxena, director, (marketing & sales), Hyundai Motor India. The model will be initially imported as a CBU and will be priced between Rs. 22-24 lakh. Hyundai Santa Fe is a 7-seater SUV powered by 2.2L diesel engine.
Hyundai Santa Fe will compete with models like Honda CRV, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Captiva, Mitsubishi Outlander and upcoming Nissan Murano and Skoda Yeti.
