Honda Siel Cars India Limited has launched a new base version of its best selling sedan model Honda City. The company had stopped the E variant last year but has re-launched the model in the Indian market. The base model was discontinued after it launched Honda Jazz and both the models were too closely placed. However, with Honda Jazz not picking up sales in India, Honda has once again decided to launch the car in the Indian market.

According to the sources the new E variant of the car costs Rs. 7.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Bangalore) and the Honda City product range will have 1.5L EMT, SMT, VMT and VAT model costing up to Rs. 9.58 lakh. “Yes, we have introduced the base variant of Honda City (EMT) in January 2010 to offer wider choice to our corporate customers for their car purchase. It is available at the price of 7.94 lakhs (ex showroom Delhi).”

Meanwhile, Honda City continues to be the best selling model for the company. Honda City sales in India have also surpassed figures in Thailand which is Honda’s best market for its City model. Now Indian sales figures are continuously rising as compared to those in Thailand. Honda Siel Cars India sold 54,634 units of Honda City between November 2008 (when the third generation model was introduced) and December 2009.
