Few days after Innova facelift was spotted testing, speculations of new generation Toyota Fortuner launch are doing the rounds. It has been learnt that Toyota is developing new generation Fortuner that is likely to be launched by 2015-2016. Updated Fortuner will share its platform with new Innova, as we reported earlier Innova will underpin Toyota New Global Architecture, however ladder-frame chassis will be retained from the current model, but it is likely that Toyota will modify the frame set up for increased performance and fuel economy.
It is expected that there will not be any major change the overall strature of the premium SUV and the vehicle will continue to boast similar dimensions. But we can expect tweaks in terms of design in order to render new generation Fortuner a chic semblance. Among the exterior cosmetic changes, a two-slat chrome grille could be equipped in the front and head lamp cluster could be made bolder and jagged. Modifications will also be made to the rear, Toyota could bestow a set of redesigned tail lamps infused with LEDs. Sources have revealed that wheelbase cold be enhanced to offer roomier cabin, interiors will also be spruced up significantly.
Mechanical changes will also be made to the SUV, however the SUV is expected to be powered with the same 3.0 litre D4-D diesel powertrain, but the engine will be overhauled to deliver enhanced power output. Currently the engine pumps out maximum power of 171 PS. Toyota could also work on skimming weight of the SUV for improved performance and refined handling. A five-speed manual transmission will be put on offer, automatic variants could get the sic-speed automatic gearbox. Toyota will offer new generation Fortuner in four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive. Pricing may vary, however it is too early to predict anything on price front.
