Ahead of it’s unveiling on July 17, 2015 in Thailand, the new images of the next-generation Toyota Fortuner have surfaced online. The 2016 Toyota Fortuner will be available in five variants – 2.4G 4×2 6MT, 2.4V 4×2 6AT, 2.8V 4×2 6AT, 2.8V 4×4 6AT and 2.7V 4×2 6AT (petrol) – and three engine options – a 2.4-litre diesel , a 2.8-litre diesel and a 2.7-litre petrol.
The new-gen Fortuner will receive substantial cosmetic updates, and lots of new features. The engine lineup, too, has been revised with the all-new 2.4-litre and the 2.8-litre ‘GD’ diesel engines that produce a maximum power of 150bhp with 343Nm of torque, and 177bhp with 420Nm and 177bhpp with 450Nm respectively. The existing 122bhp, 2.7-litre, VVT-i petrol engine will also continue to offer. Power will be transmitted to the wheels via a 6-speed manual and an automatic transmission. The SUV will get 2WD drive, and optional 4WD (only on top-end 2.8V variant) drivetrain system.
Based on a new ladder-frame chassis, the new Fortuner will be more premium and robust than the current model. It will take its interior design inspiration from the Hilux. The car will get a new dual-tone (black and brown) dashboard design, new four-spoke steering wheel with silver accents, steering mounted controls, seven seat (3 rows) configuration and a touchscreen display with navigation and multimedia functions on centre console.
Expected to be priced between Rs.20 lakh – Rs. 25 lakh (ex-showroom), the2016 Toyota Fortuner take on the likes of Hyundai Santa Fe, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the upcoming Chevrolet Trailblazer and new-gen Ford Endeavour.
