Though the launch of new-generation Ford Endeavour will take place in early 2016, the company has listed vehicle on the official website under the ‘Future SUVs’ section. The website offers a sneak peek into the SUV’s exterior and interior details and off-road capabilities. For the Indian market, the new-gen Endeavour will continue to be imported via CKD (completely knocked down) route from Thailand, and assembled at the company’s Chennai-based plant.
To recap, the India-bound 2015 Ford Endeavour will be available with two diesel engine options – a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder and a 3.2-litre, five-cylinder, TDCi. While the former produces a maximum power of 158bhp and 385Nm of torque, the latter one offers 197bhp and 470Nm of torque. The 2.2-litre diesel unit will be offered only with the 4X2 configuration coupled with a 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes, while the 3.2-litre diesel mill will get 4X4 drivetrain system with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The new-gen Endeavour will be based on Ford’s Edge design philosophy, and comes equipped with Ford’s SYNC2 infotainment system with voice commands, an 8-inch touchscreen display with 9-speaker audio system and a sub-woofer and powered third row seats. Exterior updates will include EcoSport-inspired trapezoidal grille, projector headlights, new fog-lamps, prominent wheel arches and bold stances. For better handling and drivability, the SUV will get a new Terrain management system (TMS) with pre-adjust settings for traction control, 4WD system, engine torque and other systems.
The 2015 Ford Endeavor, that will take on the Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda CR-V, Ssangyong Rexton and the upcoming new-gen Toyota Fortuner, is likely to be priced within the range of Rs. 22 lakh – Rs. 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
