The new automotive start-stop systems from Bosch are getting popular. These systems offer considerable reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emission as they can detect if the vehicle is stationary and can switch off the engine. If the vehicle is stationary for sometime, these systems can turn off the engine for example at a red light or in a traffic jam.

Such a technology is gaining grounds especially in a world of global warming, rising pollution and escalating fuel prices. These systems can save up to 5 percent fuel and reduce Co2 emissions significantly. The new start-stop systems from Bosch have been specified with specific number of engine starts which increases the service life of the engine as compared to starts from the conventional starter.

BMW and MINI are already using these automotive systems in their models and now three more automakers plan to introduce this technology in their cars. The complete system is inclusive of control software which can be easily integrated in the engine control unit. It has already sold 300 million units of conventional starters worldwide. The new technology based on the existing components can prove to be a cost-effective deal for the car manufacturers.
